Great post Jim! I really love that Dick Van Dyke Christmas episode as well. One of my favorite scenes is when they sing "I Am A Fine Musician"...so cute!
ReplyDeleteYes, terrific choices. I'm glad you picked that Van Dyke show as well (and the picture makes the point), because it sums it up so well - what Christmas TV looked like in the 60s.
ReplyDeleteThe Dick Van Dyke Christmas episode will be released this fall as a stand alone DVD (possibly paired with one other episode) as will the Twilight Zone's "Night of the Meek" (paired with "Five Characters in Search of an Exit"). Scheduled release date is October 7 and the SRP is $9.98.
ReplyDeleteAnd "The Homecoming," the Christmas TV movie that launched The Waltons--LOVE it! When John-Boy opens his Christmas present and sees they are blank journals, a gift in support of him being a writer--my eyes are flooded with happy tears! Each time I watch that movie. Without fail. So many great moments in that movie--I should have put it on my list!
ReplyDeleteI have the same reaction to John-Boy opening his gift, Joanna. One of the things I love about The Waltons (the series based on The Homecoming) is that it's hero is a WRITER!
