1) What is the first Christmas special you remember watching?
It's either A Charlie Brown Christmas or Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. I am not 100% sure, but I remember loving both when I was little.
2) Name one Christmas program/movie you enjoy watching all year round.
Pretty much any Christmas episode of Doctor Who is worthy of year round viewing! But I have a special soft spot for "The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe."
3) Name one overlooked, or under-appreciated Christmas program.
There are several quite good specials involving the Muppets that have never been released intact or at all on disc. I'll single out the delightful Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas (1977) and Muppet Family Christmas (1987) as particular favorites.

Father Ted - "A Christmassy Ted" (1996)
Quantum Leap - "A Little Miracle" (1990)
Northern Exposure - "Seoul Mates" (1991)

Muppets and Christmas go together well, don't they?
ReplyDeleteThey certainly do, Caffeinated Joe!! It's amazing how many awesome Muppet holiday specials there are. And it's great that they are all of exceptionally high quality (at least in my opinion). :-)
ReplyDeleteMuppet Family Christmas is terrific. I must admit that I never watched Fraggle Rock so Family Xmas was my first exposure to them. And it's great that the late Jim Henson makes a cameo in the program.
ReplyDeleteMuppets and Christmas--yes yes yes! If I may be so bold: I think they remain fan favorites because the writers/creators have continued to aim to entertain the whole family and not just the youngest of fans. So they expand their fan base--as adults continue to find enjoyment in what they loved to watch as children and share it with the next generation. Too few in entertainment are able to commit to lengthy projects and careers to do that much anymore. Lucky for us, we have 50 years of quality Muppets Christmas entertainment!
