Christmas TV Party 2014: Donna Bock
1) What is the first Christmas special you remember watching?
Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol. I loved it and didn’t know it was a classic book and movie, I was very young. Probably watched it the first time it was on TV and every year after that it was aired.
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, my all time favorite was my second Christmas Special which I know I watched the first airing. Still love the show and LOVED Hermy from the start! My daughter is a dentist and every Christmas I give her Hermy collectables. You name it she has it. She created a Hermy Jack-O-Lantern during her residency and won 1st prize.
2) Name one Christmas program/movie you enjoy watching all year round.
Though not old, I can watch Elf any time of the year, but I love White Christmas too.
3) Name one overlooked, or under-appreciated Christmas program.
Christmas Eve on Sesame Street is a wonderful show that isn’t even aired anymore. I bought it on VHS then CD. First saw it when my daughter was a baby. PBS aired it for a few years and now Poof, gone, what a shame.

5) What are your 3 favorite Christmas episodes of a TV sitcom or drama?
My all time fav is Happy Days, Guess Who’s Coming to Christmas. When Fonzie fakes a family in Waukesha he is going to visit on Christmas Eve. I’ve done some reading on this episode, and it’s the highest rated episode ever of the series. I like the original aired in December of 1974, but most times when aired it’s one from 1976 and Fonzie is telling the story to Al. I love the really old Sitcom Christmas episodes also, so two more favorites are Father Knows Best where the family is stranded in the mountains in a snow storm, and The Andy Griffith Show where the town drunk is behind bars and Andy and family make a Christmas for him behind bars then the Town Scrooge realizes he wants to be part of it.
Great stuff. Rudolph is definitely a favorite of the majority, it seems.

ReplyDeleteLove the Sesame Street choice. It's been many years since I last watched it, but I still remember the lyrics to "Keep Christmas With You."
ReplyDeleteYes - I remember when that was on the first time. It was broadcast on Christmas Eve back in Minneapolis (maybe that's when it was shown everywhere), but it was simply charming.
