Counting Down to Halloween

I'm so excited because it's FINALLY here!  It's October 1st and I begin my month-long blogging excursion to write about spooky, weird, creepy, haunted and horror-filled Christmas entertainments to celebrate the Halloween season.  This is my second year as an official participant in the Countdown to Halloween--a group of bloggers writing all month long about Halloween-inspired topics.  You absolutely MUST check out the long list of participating blogs--there are approx. 215 Cryptkeepers participating.  What a fun way to discover new blogs!  Click HERE for the master list of Cryptkeepers.  All month long, I'll keep the Cryptkeeper badge along the top right hand side of my blog active.  You can click it to return to the master list anytime during the month of October to find the list again.

As I mentioned, last year I blogged throughout the month of October sharing some of my favorite creepy and horrifying Christmas TV episodes, specials and movies.  Let's reflect back on some of the best of those previous posts.  Click the titles to see those posts again.

Gumby's Santa Witch

The 1972 British movie Tales from the Crypt

The 2010 Hallmark Channel movie The Good Witch's Gift

The movie musical Scrooge with Albert Finney

TV Movie Munsters' Scary Little Christmas

horror movie Black Christmas and the recent remake

instances of The Boogeyman in Christmas entertainments

1971 horror/thriller movie Who Slew Auntie Roo?

The Grinch's Halloween TV special

horror/dark comedy, British TV Christmas special from The League of Gentlemen

Leach/Rankin's animated Halloween TV special Witch's Night Out

My two favorite posts from last year's Countdown to Halloween: 1) The movie musical Scrooge with Albert Finney, entitled "Scrooge in Hell," 2) the appearances of the Boogeyman in Christmas entertainments, and 3) The Grinch's Halloween TV special, Halloween is Grinch Night from 1977.

I'll have all new posts beginning tomorrow so stop back throughout the month--and prepare to be dazzled and amazed at the staggering amount of cross-over material between Halloween and Christmas.  It's a lot of fun, I promise.

Perhaps the most frightening news is that the end of October brings the beginning of the Christmas programming season on television, starting Nov.1st.  NOW THAT'S SCARY! How quickly the seasons change.  So let's get started.
