Christmas in July 2016: Cathie Kahle

Christmas in July 2016: Cathie Kahle, member of Christmas Movies & Music

1) What Christmas episode/special/or movie always puts you in the holiday spirit?

Anything about Thanksgiving, as it's the start of the holiday season. Of course, just looking at the Hallmark Dreambook can do it too!! Lol

2) What Christmas program or scene brings you to tears?

The one movie that is guaranteed to make me cry is Mary Christmas. It stars John Schneider, Cynthia Gibb, Jenna Boyd and Tom Bosley. The last half hour gets me every time! Especially the first time I watched it. There are a lot of movies that can make me cry, but this one tops them all for me. I won't give anything away so that if you haven't seen it, you can go into it blind the first time you see it. I'd say 99% of people will have the same reaction as you really don't see the ending coming until the end.

3) What's your favorite quote of dialogue, song lyric, or sentiment from a Christmas program?

White Christmas, I'll Be Home for Christmas and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. They all seem to impart the same feeling. Wanting to be home with your family. Without being sappy about.

4) Is there a Christmas program that unintentionally frightens you--or turns you off?

I stand alone in this, but A Christmas Story just doesn't do it for me. It's not bad, but I just don't get the Christmas Fuzzies as someone in my group calls it. :)

5) Name one character from Christmas entertainment with whom you closely identify? and explain why.

Bing Crosby!! I have always wanted to sing with him. Like Allison Kraus did with Keith Whitley and Natalie Cole did with her Dad Nat King Cole. His voice just speaks to my heart like no other singer does. The closest other singers for me are Burl Ives and John Denver. All three can make you feel their music by the way they sing. But Bing beats the other two by a mile. Actually, I just thought of another one that is/was on Bing's level. Luciano Pavarotti!!

  1. One of the many things I love about this is that I own Mary Christmas and I've yet to watch it. This will remind me to get to it for sure this year. Thanks Cathie and Joanna!

  2. That was beautiful Cathie, especially your line about your favorite songs and the feeling they bring with wanting to be home with family.

(By the way, you're not alone... I feel the same about 'A Christmas Story'! No warm fuzzies here, either!)

    Blessings, Net
