Christmas in July 2016: Rob Martinez

Christmas in July 2016: Rob Martinez at The Nights Before Christmas

(Rob is deejaying a wonderful Christmas in July radio program filled with requests for the best Christmas music on Wed July 6th from 9 to 11 PM (ET) - you can stream it at wboi.org ).

1) What Christmas episode/special/or movie always puts you in the holiday spirit?

A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) - how can it NOT is the bigger question!

2) What Christmas program or scene brings you to tears?

There is a scene in Dear America: Letters Home From Vietnam (1987) in which a soldier in Vietnam reads how he spent Christmas Eve in a bunker. It reduces me to a puddle.  Every. Single. Time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xobGAyDtf4E  (0:22 - 2:25)

3) What's your favorite quote of dialogue, song lyric, or sentiment from a Christmas program?

"Oh, Christmas isn't just a day, it's a frame of mind... and that's what's been changing. That's why I'm glad I'm here, maybe I can do something about it. "  - Kris Kringle, Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

4) Is there a Christmas program that unintentionally frightens you--or turns you off?

Any of the Christmas concert videos by Mannheim Steamroller.

5) Name one character from Christmas entertainment with whom you closely identify? and explain why.

Bedford Falls resident #10 who shouts out "I NEED CASH!" during the run on the bank scene in It's A Wonderful Life (1946). I think we all can identify with that guy, yes?

    1. Mannheim Steamroller? You mean you don't like their music or don't like their concerts? I love MS, so I'm wondering why. (But I must admit their recent stuff is not as good. The first three albums are the classics.) You're not confusing them with Trans-Siberian Orchesta? I don't like a lot of the latter's songs; too loud. Some are nice.
